New Year: Success awaits you!

Vacation is officially over; the beginning of a new school year is here!  Even though we experience this yearly restart, returning to school each year brings excitement, lots of emotions, and new found energy from our summer time reflection. You and your teams have utilized the summer to reflect, gain new learning and determine your high impact actions for the school year. No doubt these efforts will launch your students and teachers into a successful school year.

With the challenges of the pandemic still lurking, there is so much to get right for the students, teachers, families, and staff. Every leader must  take on a whatever it takes attitude as they strategically plan for the school year. Realizing that you receive a ton of information from many directions, we offer recommendations to assist you in staying focused and organized.  Prioritizing the work is key. Think 4C’s: (1) What is the CHANGE you want to see this year? (2) What actions are needed to COMMUNICATE the change? (3) In what ways and with what protocols will you use to ensure COLLABORATION and proper engagement by all stakeholders? (4) How will you CELEBRATE the process?

The CHANGE you want to see starts with you as the leader and a strong Leadership Team. Using your data, observations of practices and knowledge of stakeholders and their needs, determine your goals for this year. Allow your team to support you in this work, going first in their actions and being champions for the change.

The COMMUNICATION–How will you utilize the numerous back to school events to communicate the CHANGE you want to see. Communicate! Communicate! Communicate! Meet and Greets, Back to School Professional Learning, Newsletters, Open Houses, Flyers, etc., utilize every interaction and every encounter with your stakeholders to communicate the plan.

The COLLABORATION–Do structures exist for your plans to become reality? What research based strategies will you utilize? What will our daily, weekly, monthly schedules look like to ensure time is allotted for the work to be done? How will we ensure the group uses our action plans to execute and monitor progress towards the CHANGE. Collaboration improves the way teams work together, leading to more innovation, efficiency and success.

The CELEBRATION–Have you planned to consistently CELEBRATE your teams. Acknowledging the progress by tagging success and growth ensures teams remain focused on the goals and stay motivated through the work. Celebration of teams shows you value their work and makes for happier team members.
